Technology Equality, Inc. is a nonprofit organization seeking to
narrow the
digital divide between the haves and have-nots in
our society. We solicit used computer equipment from various
companies and corporations. After refurbishing and upgrading
them, we donate them to schools and community organizations
with no charge.

Recent disturbing studies show that schools with higher
percentages of minority students in low-income districts have
consistently more students per computer, despite the funding
hundreds of millions of dollars through Title 1. The studies
show an average of 13.9 student per computer in low-income
schools. (QED National Education database).

As new computer technology, especially online searching,
enter the school curriculum, computer knowledge is now
becoming standard requirement for entering many colleges
and universities. Motivated by this need, Technology Equality
is seeking to make personal computers available for
low-income college bound students.

It is also critical that every child has access to a computer at
an early age. Our organization is to reach out to elementary
and middle level schools. Early exposure is a key element in
eliminating the great
digital divide.

Together, we hope one day the buzzword
digital divide will
become
passe in this generation.
